Overcoming Depression & Anxiety: The Power of Yoga Nidra, Breath work and Diet.
Are you tired of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted by the constant cycle of anxiety and depression? It's time to take control of your mental health and find lasting relief. In this blog, we'll explore how incorporating guided meditation which is known as “Yoga Nidra”, breath work, and diet changes can help you manage and reverse depression and anxiety.
Step 1: Practice Yoga Nidra to soothe the nervous system. Yoga Nidra, also known as "yogic sleep," is a form of meditation that helps to quiet the mind and relax the body. By laying down in a comfortable position and following a guided meditation, you can tap into a state of deep relaxation that calms the nervous system and helps to reduce stress and anxiety. If you have ever tried meditation and found it to be a challenge, you may find yoga nidra is the answer as the guided aspect causes the mind to get bored and then you move into deeper states of consciousness. Here is a LINK to one of mine that you can start with.
Step 2: Use breath work brea c to regulate the breath and the mind. Breath work techniques such as pranayama and holotrophic breathing can help to regulate the breath and bring the mind into a state of balance. By focusing on the breath and letting go of racing thoughts, you can create a sense of calm and clarity that helps to reduce anxiety and depression. One great technique is called the Sheetali Breath. Do five to ten rounds of this by simple breathing in deeply through your nose and then purse your lips as if blowing through a small coffee straw and blow a slow, steady stream of breath out until you empty your lungs. Do this cycle five to ten times and notice how your nervous system relaxes.
Step 3: Make diet changes to support mental health. Certain foods can contribute to anxiety and depression such as SUGAR. Other processed foods also cause issues, personally I have found that once I quit gluten and then had it again within 32 hours I had major problems with my mind and sleep. We are so unaware of how many of the foods we eat are impacting our moods, health and energy. There are many others that can have a positive impact on mood and mental well-being. Incorporating more nutrient-dense, whole foods into your diet can help to support brain health and boost mood. It is always best to test foods and perhaps start a diet like an elimination diet and add back slowly and note what occurs.
I personally was doing mostly vegetarian and always snuck in sweets and some alcohol like wine. Then I heard about the carnivore diet, it did not seem logical to me, however I did begin this and it lead me to understand that I was on my way to Diabetes Type 2 due to years of too much sugar and wine. I created an insulin resistance and a metabolic dysfunction. I am now working on this to reverse it. Thank goodness I tried the Carnivore, or I would not have known until too late.
Additionally, reducing or eliminating refined sugars and processed foods can help to regulate blood sugar and reduce inflammation, both of which can contribute to anxiety and depression.
Step 4: Seek support others or hire a coach, I offer coaching on many areas and you can get details below. While self-care practices like Yoga Nidra, breath work, and diet changes can be incredibly helpful, sometimes we need additional support to fully address and heal from anxiety and depression. Working with a coach who specializes in multidimensional areas can provide the guidance and support you need to make lasting changes and find lasting relief.
Take control of your mental health today and start incorporating these practices into your self-care routine. You deserve to live a happy, healthy life free from the burden of anxiety and depression.
